This is very true. India has so many talented economists and even qualified civil servants for the job then why to hang on to just one person. No economy can ever be dependant on just one person.
I can agree with some of your points like the media exaggeration. But when we talk about expertise, Mr. Rajan was the most able person to do this job at least for one more term. Still lets hope for the best in coming days.
When the government has taken over the job of monetary policy from governor by forming a committee for same then no point who is the Governor or not. All institutions are now politicised.
No one should doubt the capability of even Subramaniam Swamy who himself is an economist and comes from academic background. Nevertheless, politics in such jobs should not be made a point of contention.
If Indian government wants to remain a growing economy then credit has to flow from banks to corporates which needs easing of interest rates. Right, this may be a risk but you have to play with fire when you are leading a Central Bank of any country.
Together with jobs and infrastructure development, even failing private sectors wants RBI to take a call on low rates regime. New governor should heed to this call.
The point is that whenever there is any change in positions the media comes in and starts allegations and counter allegations. China is brainy here by prioritising just state media outlets.
If you will speak with foreign players and investors they seem very assured because Raghuram Rajan has a global stature. You may not find such great a person to lead the countrys apex banking institution.
All eyes on just RBI Governor. This is a state of being surrounded by meaningless news channels. Let him go and then welcome a new person with different approach and ideas.
Prior to 1970 RBI did not make any monetary and interest related policies. Was India not progressing then? I agree with all of your points and wish luck to whosoever is the upcoming governor.
